While waiting during the agonizingly long process of downloading World of Warcraft updates over DSL, I decided it was time for a change. On a whim, I looked at the "Comcast Triple Play" package (so Cable, Voice, and Internet). I did the math, and found that it's $30 cheaper than our old setup!
So I phoned them up to get some info...
The first time I called, the guy said I could get the "Triple Play" package for $120, and get only one receiver box (any more would be $10/month per box). Meh. When I called again, I got a different person, this time a gal, and she said I could get the package for only $100. Plus, I was able to talk her into sending three receiver boxes at no additional charge. Sweet. Not consistent, but I guess that's how the game is played. I also talked to the technical service department who assured me that I would still be allowed to run this webserver on the connection as long as it was for personal use. I asked because the last time I called them to ask about this, their server policy was a lot more strict.
So we went ahead with it. A tech came to our house today, upgraded the 1990's CATV wiring to something a lot more stable, set up the various boxes, and it's been working great for the past few hours. I'm quite happy with it so far!

It is strange that you are getting the advertised speeds with comcast. I have comcast, and when I took an online speed test, I got 1.5 Mbps.

I also have Comcast and I'm not getting quite the same results. . .
Although that could be for a number of reasons:
1) I'm using wireless B (I use my laptop almost exclusively, mainly because it's about as fast as my tower PC and I can sit on the couch, the porch, etc. with it.
Just tried it on a hard-wired PC and got this:
2) There's quite a few computers in my house sharing the connection, someone is probably doing Windows updates or using LimeWire or something.
3) We've got two Vonage lines (one that my dad's work pays for, mainly used as his fax line, and one for the house phone). That's probably the big killer.

That could be, because I have one Vonage line, and sometimes a second V-phone. But I tested the line at midnight, so there should be little or no vonage use at the time. My theory is that maybe the rated speeds are only for new customers. Also, I am using Wifi, although Wifi is rated at 54Mbps.

I've found that I've been getting a consistently high speed with my connection, regardless of the time and day. I suspect that either not many people in my neighborhood have Comcast, or that they've supplied a fatter pipe to my neighborhood's terminal.
Most online games don't require high bandwidth, but do play better with low latency.
My latency in playing WoW used to be around 50ms with DSL. (Spiking up to an unsuable 1500ms when someone was watching a video or downloading a file.)
My latency for WoW on Comcast is typically between 30-40ms, jumping occasionally up to 100ms when I'm really maxing out the connection. The game is still perfectly fine at this latency though. Also, updates with WoW take only seconds now, not minutes.
Nope. The quality of my connection has remained consistently high regardless of the time of day.
Your milage may vary, but I've been really pleased with the service I've received from Comcast so far.

Comcast speed differ
The speed of any cable internet connection will vary based on the number of other users on. so if you did that speed test at 1:30 AM you would probably get advertised speeds. But if you did it at 8:00 PM (when a lot of people are probably visiting your site) you would get much slower speeds.
